By Staff Writer

The William Byrd indoor track team competed in the “Bulldog Invitational” at the Liberty University indoor facility last week. The meet was the hosted the Liberty Christian Academy Bulldogs and attracted about 20 schools.

For Byrd, the highlight of the meet was when Justin Smith broke his own indoor High Jump record of 5’ 10” with a Jump of 6’ 0”, giving him a second place finish overall.

“It has been a plateau he has been close to for awhile but just could not seem to put it all together until Saturday,” said Byrd coach Eric Royal.

Brice Connor set a personal best in the shot put by almost two feet with a heave of 36’ 10”. Also, Nick Leffell and Kevin O’Connor were fourth and ninth in the 1000 meters, as they both continue to have outstanding seasons. The boys 4×800 team came in 3rd 8:45.62.

“The girls team is young and taking their lumps this season,” added Royal. “We have several ninth graders who are learning to run indoor track and they’re growing with every meet.”
