Slough, George Kimbel

George Kimbel Slough, 78, died on April 6, 2010. He was an enthusiastic usher at the Salem Red Sox games and before that, the Salem Avalanche and earlier teams dating back to the old Salem Baseball Stadium, now Kiwanis Field. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Cecilia; children Geralynn, Karl, Nancy and Kenny; grandchildren Megan, Eric, Kyle, Courtney, Krista, Sarah and Anna. George graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School in Harrisburg, Pa., and earned a Philosophy Degree from St. Vincent’s in Latrobe, Pa., and Masters in Religious Studies from Loyola University, New Orleans, La. A prayer vigil was held on April 8 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem. The funeral was held there, with interment following at St. Andrews Diocesan Cemetery. George was remembered during the Salem Red Sox game on April 17. Memorials may be sent to RAM House at 824 Campbell Ave. SW, Roanoke, Va. 24016.
