Simmers, Clarabell

Clarabell Simmers, age 90, of Blacksburg went to be with the Lord Friday, December 4, 2009 at New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Bellepoint, WV on April 24, 1919 to the late George and Daisy Farley Lyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett (Red) Goff Simmers, infant daughter, Rebecca Susan Simmers, three sisters and four brothers. She was loved by her children, grandchildren, family, great grandchildren, neighbors and friends. She was a long time member of North Fork Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Benjamin (Benny) and Grace Simmers of Blacksburg, Garnett (Eddie) and Juliana Simmers of Fairlawn, Gary (Steve) and Melissa Simmers of Pilot; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ed Glade, Jr. of Centreville, VA; ten grandchildren, Sharon S. Robinson and husband, Randy, Benjamin Simmers, Jr., Brian Simmers, Laura G. Deem, Tracy G. Parson and husband, John, Eddie Glade, III, Eddie Simmers, Jr. and wife, Mendy, Kelly Simmers and wife, Rachel, Daryn Simmers and wife, Ashley, Amanda M. Simmers, Missionary to Thailand; thirteen great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Lauren Robinson, Lexi and Carlie Simmers, John, III, Sarah and Rebecca Parson, David and Daniel Deem, Carter, Kailee, Lillian Simmers, Garrett Simmers; one sister, Alma Ruth McCray of Staunton, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the North Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Brugger and Rev. Olen Gardner officiating. Interment followed in the North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North Fork Baptist Church, 905 Lusters Gate Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 N. Progress St., Blacksburg, VA 24060.
