By Staff Writer

The Big Orange wrestlers went 5-0 in Low Moor last Saturday to win the Alleghany Duals. Byrd beat five different schools, including an exciting two-point win over the host team in the championship round.

“Most of the guys wrestled pretty well,” said Byrd coach Reed Carpenter. “We’re still making some mistakes, but we’re working on it and we’re getting better.”

The Terriers won three matches by four points or less, including the 38-36 win over Alleghany in the championship match. They beat Salem, 40-36, and Greenbriar East of West Virginia, 39-36. The Orange also beat Pulaski County, 42-27, and Patrick Henry, 36-26.

Derek Sheehan and Dustin Woods both went undefeated on the day for Byrd. Reed also put freshman Michael Crosswhite in the lineup and we was 4-0 and had a forfeit win.

This week the Terriers will be at Glenvar for a quad. Salem, Rockbridge, and host Glenvar will all participate in the quad, which begins at 9 am.

Next Wednesday, January 20, Byrd has a Blue Ridge District match at Lord Botetourt. The Big Orange, hosted by the Terriers, is scheduled for January 22 and 23.
