Onslow County declares State of Emergency
From the Onslow Dept. of Administration:
The Onslow Board of Commissioners declared a State of Emergency Thursday August 25, effective Friday August 26 at 6 o’ clock a.m. continuing until it is rescinded in writing by county officials.
Curfew: A curfew will be in effect for Onslow beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday August 27 through Sunday August 28 at 9:00 p.m. Citizens are reminded to stay off roadways and exercise extreme caution.
Evacuations: Officials are calling for voluntary evacuations for residents living in low lying and vulnerable areas within the unincorporated areas of Onslow County due to hurricane winds, storm surge and localized flooding. The American Red Cross has opened shelters. Locations are White Oak High School, Richlands High School, Dixon Middle School, Southwest Middle School, Swansboro High School and Jacksonville Commons Middle School. Evacuees should bring necessities such as medication, clothing and bedding. Jacksonville Commons will allow pets. Pets must be crated and owners must bring the animal’s food.
Closings: Onslow County Government offices will remain closed through Sunday. Alber J. Ellis Airport will remain open as long as it’s safe. Contact airlines directly with questions.
