Wednesday remains the “late night” at the library, when it is open until 8 p.m., Library Director Marguerite Noga said.

The library is now open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays from 3-8 p.m.; and Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We are very excited to be able to offer these expanded hours and are sure that these changes will be welcomed by our patrons,” Noga said.

The library is able to stay open longer this year with additional funding from Craig County and the Town of New Castle.

Smith, a longtime library volunteer, was hired for the additional 10 hours per week.

“We greatly appreciate the confidence in the library that this increased support signifies,” said Noga.

The library board voted to hire Smith for the new positon. “She will certainly make tremendous contributions to the programs and services that we are able to provide. Betty has been involved with the library for several years in various volunteer positions, and has shown her dedication and unique abilities in many ways.”

Noga added, “She is already known to our regular patrons, especially the younger ones who have participated in our summer and winter reading programs. Her teaching background and enthusiasm for libraries and learning combine to make her a natural for this position.”
