Chinquapin teenager killed in ATV accident

By Staff Writer

Beautiful and vivacious Raven Kennedy of Chinquapin loved yellow, had many friends, and lived a very active lifestyle. Sadly, Kennedy’s life was cut short in an ATV accident that occurred on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 4:53 p.m. near Beulaville.

Raven Nicole Kennedy

Kennedy, of 192 Firehouse Road, Chinquapin, was 16 years old. Her passenger Michael T. Pickett of 466 Sandlin Road, Beulaville, was 21 years old.

According to Trooper J.T. Hunter, Kennedy was traveling west on private property just off State Road 1951, when she attempted to make a left hand turn, overturning the vehicle and ejecting both riders.

When Kennedy attempted to make the turn and failed, the ATV struck a ditch and came to a stop headed south in the ditch and on its left side.

Trooper Hunter said neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet.

Both were transported to Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville. Kennedy was pronounced dead at the hospital. Pickett was treated and released.

Raven is the daughter of Padrick and Nancy Kennedy. Padrick is the assistant transportation director for Duplin County.

The teenager attended East Duplin High School, Beulaville, where a memorial service was held to remember this loving person this past week. The community is grieving over this tragedy.
