Phyllis left us smiling on Oct. 20, 2010. She was born on a sunny November day in Covington, to the late Aaron and Rose Smith. Her mother described it as “a beautiful Indian summer day.”

She is survived by her husband, Leslie T. Jones, to whom she was definitely an asset in accomplishing their goals in life; and a beautiful daughter Polla Lynn Jones, who was the joy of her life and was always respectful, kind and caring. Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salem, and retired from General Electric Company after many loyal years of service.

She was an avid ballroom dancer, which she enjoyed immensely. She was a member of the “300” club for many years. Several other passions were beautiful home furnishings, fashionable clothes and jewelry. Phyllis also met many people who became dear friends.

Phyllis leaves them broken hearted but blessed with a Chanel No. 5 scented model of love and courage, and remembrance that she was always a lady. Those whom she considered a friend were fortunate, and will remember she always had a smile for you.

Funeral services were conducted Oct. 22 in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating.

Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. The family respectfully requests no repast and no visits to the home.
