Bassett, Northside are week three foes

Week 3 is in the books and Christiansburg continues to mow down its non-district competition, as they claimed a 23-7 victory over Carroll County in Hillsville last Firday night. It was the first time that these two teams played each other since 1995. In that game, between these old New River District foes, the Blue Demons won 21-0. This past Friday night, the Blue Demons (3-0) jumped out to a 10-0 lead at the half. After giving up a touchdown to the Cavaliers (1-2) in the third quarter, Christiansburg tallied 13 fourth quarter points to claim the 23-7 victory.

Christiansburg’s Greg Lee and Ryan Fisher combined for 225 rushing yards. Lee finished the game with 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Fisher recorded 85 yards. This Friday, the Blue Demons will host Bassett at 7:30 pm. The Bengals (1-2) come into town after losing 32-7 to Jefferson Forest last Friday night. It was Bassett’s second-straight loss after opening the season with a 21-20 win over Carroll County,

The Bengals’ defense gave up 446 yards, in which 357 of those yards came on the ground. Offensively, Bassett compiled just 169 yards.

Also this Friday, Blacksburg, who was off last Friday night, travels to Roanoke to take on Northside. The Vikings (2-1) are coming off a 10-7 loss to Cave Spring. In that game, Ethan Hafey kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired to give the Knights (3-0) the thrilling victory. Northside’s lone touchdowd came on an 11-yard run by Dustin Plelps. who led the rushing game with 73 yards on 14 carries. In the game, the Vikings amassed 190 yards on offense, in which 128 of those yards came on the ground. Defensively, Northside gave up 277 yards, with 198 yards coming via airmail.
